Paolo Maldini Takes Charge of Italy's Rebuild as New Technical Director

Paolo Maldini has accepted the role of technical director for the Italy national team, marking the beginning of a new era for the country's football program. The appointment is part of the Italian Football Federation's long-term plan to rebuild the Azzurri following years of disappointing results.

The AC Milan legend has reportedly agreed to a four-year contract after accepting an offer from federation leadership. His position will extend beyond traditional technical duties, giving him a significant role in shaping the future direction of Italian football.

In addition to serving as technical director, Maldini will also oversee Club Italia, a newly established role designed to strengthen the connection between the national teams and the federation's broader development strategy. His responsibilities will include major sporting decisions and long-term planning.

Former AC Milan teammate Leonardo is also expected to join the project as a special adviser. One of their first priorities will be identifying the next head coach capable of leading Italy back to international success after a difficult period.

The appointments come at a critical time for Italian football following the national team's failure to qualify for three consecutive FIFA World Cups, including the most recent edition. With experienced figures now leading the rebuilding process, expectations are high that Italy can restore its status among the world's elite football nations.
