€108.5 Million Spent: Where Does Dortmund's 2026 Transfer Window Rank?

Borussia Dortmund spent €108.5 million during the summer transfer window for the 2026/27 season, making it one of the biggest spending campaigns in the club's history. The German side brought in seven new players, with Konstantinos Karetsas becoming their most expensive signing at €30 million from KRC Genk. Despite the significant investment, Dortmund's latest spending spree did not set a new club record.

Dortmund have traditionally been known for developing young talent rather than consistently spending huge sums on transfers. The club's model has often focused on identifying promising players, developing them into stars and eventually selling them for substantial profits. The €108.5 million spent this summer therefore represents a major investment, but it only ranks fifth among Dortmund's most expensive transfer windows.

The fourth-highest spending season came in 2022/23, when Dortmund invested €109.1 million on 10 players. Sebastian Haller was the biggest purchase at €31 million from Ajax, while Karim Adeyemi followed at €30 million from RB Salzburg. One year earlier, Dortmund had spent €122.59 million in 2017/18, a window heavily influenced by the club's €105 million sale of Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona. Andriy Yarmolenko cost €30 million, while Manuel Akanji arrived from FC Basel for €21.5 million.

Dortmund's second-biggest spending campaign occurred in 2016/17, when the club spent €141.10 million on nine players. Ousmane Dembele was the most expensive arrival at €35 million from Rennes, followed by Andre Schurrle, who joined from Wolfsburg for €30 million. These figures show how aggressively Dortmund invested during that period while continuing to build a squad around emerging and established talent.

The club's record transfer spending remains the 2019/20 season, when Dortmund invested €148.5 million on eight players. Mats Hummels was the most expensive addition at €30.5 million following his return from Bayern Munich. With €108.5 million spent in 2026/27, Dortmund have once again shown a willingness to invest heavily, but their latest window still falls well short of their record-breaking spending spree.
