Top Four Liga 1 Teams Set to Represent Indonesia on Asian and ASEAN Stages
The conclusion of the 2024-25 Liga 1 season has confirmed four Indonesian clubs that will represent the country in various international competitions. Persib Bandung claimed the championship title with 69 points, securing their spot in the AFC Champions League Two for the second consecutive year. However, concerns have emerged as several of their foreign players are rumored to be transferring to Malut United, prompting management to prepare potential replacements while aiming to retain the team’s core strength.

Dewa United finished as runners-up, eight points behind Persib, and earned a place in the AFC Challenge League. Unlike previous runners-up who overhauled their squads, Dewa intends to keep their key players. With a star-studded lineup featuring names like Hugo Gomes, Alexis Messidoro, and Egy Maulana Vikri, expectations are high for a strong showing on the continental stage, especially given Madura United's previous semifinal run with a more modest squad.

Rounding out the top four are Malut United and Persebaya Surabaya, both of whom will compete in the ASEAN Club Championship. Malut United has demonstrated ambitions of becoming a top-tier club by actively recruiting national team-caliber players and reportedly acquiring four foreign players from Persib. This aggressive recruitment signals their intent to compete seriously on the ASEAN level.

Persebaya, meanwhile, is preparing for a new chapter by replacing head coach Paul Munster with a new foreign manager, who is expected to bring in his own team of assistants. With talents like Ernando Ari in their ranks, the team is aiming for improved international performance. Both Malut United and Persebaya carry the hope of surpassing the regional achievements of clubs like PSM Makassar, who made waves in the ASEAN Club Championship this season.
